05 Nov 2009 - Pantanal

We woke up at 06h30 to do activities before the day turn too hot... the first thing that I saw when I got out of my room was a toucan! It’s so special to see that bird in the nature and not in a cage! wow! It’s amazing!!!

My group and I left the hotel around 7h to go fishing piranha and do safari. We were in a ride of 25 minutes in an open Jeep. I was feeling so happy with all that birds’ sound, hot wind and landscapes so different.

On that road we saw birds, cows, horses and vegetation that no one had ever seen before, to learn about that place, since it’s so different and exotic

When we arrived by the river to fish, there were alligators everywhere around us! Out or the river and in the water. We needed to go be in the water to fish. We were fishing piranhas with crocodiles every where around us. It’s was so exciting!

I can’t believe that this place is reality.

First by car we saw some cattle, jabiru and horses. It was funny. Then, we hiked and learned many things, about plants, fruts, animals and trees. I thought that the animals were beautiful, Hyacinth Macaw, Dusky-legged Gua and I can see all that in the nature.

Arara Azul – Blue Macaw

It was a great day, since the sun was hidden it was not very hot, and I thought that was perfect. The horses were far away from the hotel, so we had more contact with nature. They were very tall and beautiful. Almost none of the exchange students knew how to ride horses (and they still don’t). It was fun seeing everyone learning. We liked because horseback riding we could see may birds, like the Blue Macaw and other animals, like wild pig, cows, and plans.

We also had the opportunity to talk, admire and learn things that we can’t find in our countries.

After the piranhas fishing the safari began, it was an experience to see the birds such as parrots and tuiuiu, and the capybaras, emas and even one feral pig (Montero pig).
The guides were great and taught us a lot in a fun setting. We were included in the tour in interesting was. its was great to see the nature and beauty of Pantanal in a relaxed setting although (mosquitoes were absolutely everywhere) it was wonderful.

We woke up very early, but after the activity began we quickly forgot our tiredness. It was amazing. Even just going by jeep to the stables was an experience with in itself. There were so many birds and landscape was beautiful the riding was fun, even for those of us that have never ridden before, all though we didn’t go fast it was amazing to be with our friends and enjoy being outside in a unique and breathtaking place such as Pantanal. Altogether a fantastic experience.
